"This house is unbelievable. 20 foot ceilings, tall wooden doors, mosaico tile floors, ceiling fans, skylights and your own private pool. Jungle birds wake you up every morning. Comfortable beds, beautiful furniture, super clean, great air flow from front to back (there are large windows and doors on both ends), there is air conditioning but instead of using the A/C we started and ended our days by taking a dip in the pool to cool down a bit. Merida is hot but breezy so you never feel uncomfortable. The house is very large and can easily house 4 people or a family. The kitchen was fully functioning so we ended up cooking a few days. Carlos gave us great restaurant suggestions (please try Glendy's homemade horchata and sandwiches) and the neighbours were very friendly and helped us out with directions, etc... There are 2 small stores across the street for snacks, water and beer and a large grocery store 10 min walk away. The house is 3 blocks from the bus station so it's very easy to get to. The Centro is a 10-15 min walk away but we found in the end that the neighbourhood the house is in is actually much more interesting for food and culture (also less touristy), especially around San Sebastian Park area. They have a set up of patios between the food carts and the food is the best I've had during our entire trip (try the chicken tamale and the panuchos at Ligio 2). If you look for something more busy and intense, Merida has a huge mercado around 65 and 67. It has everything, we walked around for hours. Merida gets quiet early (around 10-11pm) and feels very safe. Carlos was very responsive to all our questions and requests and generally a pleasure to deal with. We were so sad to leave."
